Serums do we need them?

OK lets start with Serums - I never used to use a Serum when I was younger. I didn't think it was important - after I reached the age of 30 they became the holy grail for me. My mum swears by it and although it does help we have oriental genes on our side we still use it. Its like a wonderful base for me before I apply my moisturiser. I am of the school of thought that before you can apply make up you need to have a beautiful canvas - like painting a picasso! I have heard so many make up artists tell me people tend to skip that part....my advice is don't....if you have beautiful skin then anything else will just look ever more beautiful.

I have discovered a few that might tickle your fancy for the day.

Let's start off with most expensive one La Prairie Cellular Power Serum 50ml - but this is an investment piece for your skin. Nicole Scherzinger who has used the products since she was ten swears by it and look at how amazing her skin is. I got this from the airport duty free as it retails at about £322.00 pounds - now you may gasp in horror but its the one of the best serums I have ever used. You can get it cheaper £289.80 at John Lewis at the moment price match
This product can last for at least 6 months maybe 8 months at a push or even longer if you have another serum :-) It has lovely packaging and it has a push pump which distributes just the right amount at a time (I use about 2 pushes). The texture is light and it feels really light on your face. It sinks in straight away.

The other one which I have finished using and was amazing was by Creme De La Mer The Regenerating Serum they only do this in 30ml & 75ml - I would go for the 30ml as it retails at about £230 pounds and does last for 4-6 months. I haven't used this one in a while but it did have a similar consistency slightly thicker and last for ages. Here are some really good reviews and its another good alternative.

The other one I am finishing at the moment that seems like a neverending bottle is YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum 50ml which can be used day and night (not on the neck).  This comes in a handy 30ml, 50ml and 75ml - the 50ml retailing at £82.00 pounds. If you are looking to pay mid range for a Serum then you wouldn't go wrong getting this. Its a lot more gloopy in texture then the previous two and you can even use the serum from the side of the rod as its quite thick. I would use 1 to 2 drops on your face. It sinks in but with a little more movement. I would say out of the 3 in the picture I use this one least as I like the ones which feel smooth on my skin and the smell.

The last one which I discovered through an amazing Shu Uemura make up artist Angel at a Space NK event a month or so ago in the Liverpool Street branch was the Shu Uemura Tsuya Skin Youth Radiance Generator. It only comes in a 30ml but that's ok it will still last you a good few months. At first I was dubious as I had some really good serums already but couldn't resist - Angel had also said it gave you a glow so wanted to see what he meant. He was right, it felt amazing on my skin and gave me a glow (the kind you get with Clarins Beauty Balm). This retails for about £51.50, luckily it was a store event where you got a £50 voucher to spend on another day so I tried it and loved and picked it up paying only a £1.50 on another day.

Serums do cost more money then your usual moisturiser but your face will thank you for it in the years to come.....I'll be reviewing some of the night serums in my next blog!
